Are you the passive victim of your life’s circumstances or do you view yourself as the active creator of your life? More often than not the answer is the former. Today, I’m going to share what I mean when I say create your life, debunk some myths, and share practical steps on how you can actively engage in your lives and create the life of your dreams.
What can you expect from this episode?
Let’s Dive In! If we were to take a quick scan in a room of 100 people, 80 or more would say they are a victim to life, its happenings and its twists and turns. We keep going with the current unsure whether we are being pulled in the right direction or in some cases unaware that we are moving in the first place.
I’m no believer in the concept of ‘New Year Resolutions’ but I’ve observed in the past that more often than not time passes by and life ebbs away without you even being conscious of it. You have tall dreams and plans but before you know it, the time’s all gone and you have nothing to show for it. Have you felt the same? Welcome to the club!
While there are a plethora of reasons where this time goes away – in fear, in indulging in distractions, in petty conflicts, in anger, aggression, depression, disdain, despair and what not – We are not going to look at that today.
We are going to explore how you can create your life consciously, lovingly, with intention every single day.
“Creating your life means strategically making things happen in your life by focusing on your priorities, directing your energy towards fulfilling it intentionally, and consciously shying away from thoughts/people/activity that does not resonate with these priorities and intentions.”
In today’s world of hustle we are all short of time, so we go about doing what’s necessary without thought or intention cause there’s no time to think. But when we live life like this unconsciously, we allow our minds on auto pilot to create our reality – we become a victim to the circumstances. Things happen to us and if they are favorable we live complaining that nothing exciting ever happens to us and if they are unfavorable we ask why me.
Now you might think, surely not everything in life is in my control. A recent example of the pandemic can prove this statement right away. And you are right – it is not! The pandemic scaling up and eating up the entire year was definitely not in our control. But how we reacted to it was. In life there will always be external situations beyond our control, our grasp, our understanding – but if we could navigate that through the same grace, ease, and joy as anything else in life, life itself would be such a pleasant experience right?
So despite these external situations, you have the power to be in control of your life experience, of your state of mind, and by focusing your attention, energy, and thoughts towards what you want out of life.
Mindset shift you ask? No, it’s not woo-woo magic I’m talking about here, but a plain and simple task of taking responsibility for your life. This means taking responsibility for all that is right and all that is not. Your health, wealth, relationships, all are where they are because you are the way you care. Realize, and I mean, truly realize, that we are the creators of our lives.
Every moment we are breathing, we make an intention with our thoughts and these thoughts guide our choices and action. This could be completely unconscious or done with total awareness. Our thoughts carry a frequency and a vibration to it and this vibration attracts similar frequencies in the universe and brings them to your life. You don’t have to believe It if you are not there yet, but just ensure you focus only on what you want.
We hardly ever plan our lives out. We are happy to keep going with the flow – following what we are told to do wherever we are and doing that diligently. But has that ever led us anywhere worthwhile? No!
If we were all meant to be cogs in the wheel – the creator could have just created robots instead of us. Why create so many unique humans with complex emotions, feelings, DNA, and wiring. Remember, each one of us are unique. Every single experience that we’ve had makes us our very own person. Look around you – 2 people in the same profession also have very different outlooks on why they are where they are – because it stems from their unique experiences.
So, Look deep within yourself, what do you want your life to stand for? What matters most? What gives you the most joy? What is the legacy you’d like to leave behind? Behind each of these questions is a unique answer that loops in each thread to make your own weave of life. Define that, prioritize that and make time for that.
Now that you’ve seen your long term vision, it is time to break them down to annual goals. A macro vision is good to have but it can soon overwhelm you because your current reality might be quite different from that vision. So chunking them down into byte-sized goals makes it more workable.
Ask yourself this : Where would you want to be a year from now towards that vision you defined for yourself in Step 2?
You have an annual goal linked to the long-term vision. Now create a system in place to get you there. What do you need to do to achieve that one year from now? What are the resources you need to get there – when I say resources I mean skill-sets, finances, time, ability, people, and ecosystem. Remember it takes a village to make one successful, so don’t try to do it all on your own. Figure out who you can count on to move towards where you want to go. And get organized. How are you going to know you’re on track? What checks and balances do you need to put in place to review progress – weekly reviews, monthly, or quarterly? Whatever works for you.
Now comes the tricky part – How many times have you drawn up plans and not taken one step towards it? How has that worked for you in the past?
Intentional living requires you to show up every single day whether you “feel” like it or not to move closer to your goals. And without committing to act on the plan – the plan will remain nothing but a pipedream, a hollow wish list with no life force behind it.
This is not an easy step and I always recommend having a community around it. Share your goals with your friends and family – get a buy-in from them and hold yourself accountable to the plan now that you have witnesses to the transformation.
Change is hard and it is harder alone. I’ve been there myself and it’s no fun. It was all work and no play but ever since I started channeling that effort into building a community here at Being Meraklis I realized things don’t have to be that tough. There’s so much potential to ask, learn, and grow from each other. So if you feel you are ready to step up and create that life of your dreams, join the Being Meraklis Tribe and be a part of a like-minded tribe that will support, encourage, and celebrate successes along your journey towards living your best life.
